SHRM affiliate group that I am an active member of. I started my career in a small Human Resources office and was mainly in charge of everyday administrative tasks. I then began learning about Workers Compensation, Hiring, and Benefits. I could not get enough of the vast amount of knowledge that was available thru SHRM, I was hooked! I decided to become certified thru SHRM and the Human Resource Certification Institute and received my PHR, and then on to my SPHR. I am now the Human Resources Manager for 250-300 employees and I am able to contribute the skills and knowledge that I have gained from SHRM to help my career as well as my company grow in the right direction.” Stacey Stuart, SPHR, Human Resource Director of Grandview
“The Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) Essentials of HR Management Certificate of Achievement obtained through Labette Community College Workforce Education in 2012 provided me with the most up-to-date Business Training in HR Management, Employment Law, Recruitment and Selection, Compensation and Benefits, Employee Development and Performance Management. Our classes incorporated a number of interrelated job functions and created a stronger alignment between our workplace and HR goals. The course objective allowed us to plan for ways to transfer our knowledge and skills learned from training to on-the-job tasks for strategic, operational and administrative roles in our workplace. The focus on HR Management was fabulous and most inspiring! As an Officer and Board of Director of our local chapter, Southeast Kansas Human Resource Association (SEKHRA), I trust you will find there are many opportunities that will provide pivotal up-to-date HR related information in all aspects of HR including Training, Compensation, Benefits, Networking, Department of Labor and Legislative Updates. The leadership and teamwork with our HR Associates within SEKHRA and SHRM is most supportive and helpful with all aspects of HR Management. My advice…join today!” Debbie Thompson, SEKHRA Board of Director/Volunteer
“I belong to the local SHRM chapter because staying up on the most up to date information in a every changing environment is important. It helps me better serve the organization and the those that I work with. It give me a chance to network and build relationships with other HR professionals that have the same challenges I do. An opportunity to get input or information to solution providing a better way address those challenges. I have been a member of our group for over ten years and have learned so much.” Chris Sykes, SPHR, Human Resource Director of Labette Health
“The Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) has been instrumental in my career. After obtaining my Human Resources (HR) Bachelor’s degree, I did not immediately obtain an HR job although the job I did have required some HR duties. Sixteen years later, I secured an HR director’s job and needed immediate and updated training. I visited the SHRM website weekly and along with workshops and seminars quickly updated my HR skills. Today, I continue to visit the website as the tools (forms, webinars, sample polices, etc.) provided along with legislative information helps me keep my business in compliance. About the same time I took the director’s job, I became acquainted with the Southeast Kansas Human Resource Association (SEKHRA) group. Local and experienced HR officers and members became mentors and friends for me. The monthly meetings held close to Parsons have given me the opportunity to discuss current HR practices that are invaluable to me and my organization.”
Janice Every, Human Resource Director of Labette Community College
